FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Today, public school teacher, mother, and grandmother Marisa Wood announced she will not take money from the fossil fuel industry. Over the last 20 years, Marisa has seen the effects pollutants have had on the children she teaches, and that is why she signed on to the pledge.

“The people in our community working in the oil and gas industry work hard to allow all of us to move freely around. I will ensure that a thoughtful and responsible process is in place as we move to a more clean, sustainable world where we all can breathe as freely as we travel.”

Marisa continued, “Kevin McCarthy is in the top five recipients from the Oil and Gas industry in Congress. I want to make sure that every kid can play outside and not have to miss recess simply because bought-off legislators are unwilling to make a pragmatic change.”

Marisa understands many families’ struggles in California’s 23rd Congressional District. She understands the need to move to a more sustainable future for the benefit of our community, children, and existence.
