FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Today, candidate for congress, public school teacher, mother, and grandmother, Marisa Wood released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the January 6th, insurrection.

“Just one year ago, our nation’s capital was stormed by a group who brutalized capitol police officers and used force to stop our democracy and the peaceful transition of power. My thoughts today are with the brave men and women who protect our nation’s capital, and to thank them for their dedicated service to this country–we owe them a great deal of gratitude.

“On this day, it is my sincere hope that we all come together to uphold our democracy; to support free and fair elections; and to revel in the American spirit that remained undaunted in the face of insurrection. There are those who were in the capitol this fateful day one-year ago who continue to downplay and ignore the threat the treasonous rioters rendered against our country. We must never forget and move forward with unity and dedication to the Constitution.

“As we remember those that lost their lives on this day, we  honor their patriotism by supporting the freedom every American is privileged to hold –freedom of vote–we each bear a responsibility to defend and sustain our democracy as our Founding Fathers set forth in the Constitution.”
