Governor Newsom declares special election for 20th Congressional District

Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring a special election for the 20th Congressional District on May 21, 2024.

According to a release, the primary for the special election will be held on March 19, 2024.

The position is currently vacant as it was last held by Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Some of the leading candidates for the position include:

  • Mike Boudreaux, Republican, Tulare County Sheriff
  • Vince Fong, Republican, 32nd District Assemblyman
  • David Giglio, Republican, Businessman
  • Marisa Wood, Democrat, Teacher
